Celebrating 500.000 email invitations and an important notice

Eliademy today reached a new milestone. Over 500.000 email invitations were sent in the last 30 days. This is a significant milestone that keeps us running.

Because of the unprecedented amount of invitations and new users in the platform we have managed to shock the system. Therefore at the moment is hard to enrol to a new course from the public catalogue.

We advise all FREE users to wait for 3 days before sending new invitations.
For our Premium users, there is the following workaround.

Workaround steps:

  1. Ask the user to create an account with Eliademy
  2. Navigate to the ADMIN page and click “User Admin”
  3. Add the user into the system by uploading an excel of emails or emails separated by a comma.
  4. Go to “Manage enrollments” and then assign your users to the course
  5. Next time that the user will login will be able to see your course

Rest assured that the team is working hard to open up the catalogue to the FREE users in a short period of time. Until then you can ask from support@eliademy.com anything that could make your life easier. We are here to simplify and eager to serve you.

Advanced quizzes and assignments for your live online courses

Eliademy is a community-driven platform.  We have gotten over a thousand direct messages, votes and open suggestion on how we should improve course quizzes. Today, we are proud to announce the launch of a brand new quizzes and assignments interface.

First, we have split all tasks on Eliademy into 2 distinct categories:

  • Assignments – a task that requires an answer from a student (an essay for example) which needs to be checked and graded by a course instructor
  • Quizzes – a task with a set of predefined questions that student need to complete on their own and get an instant rating

New quizzes highlights. For each quiz instructor can:

  • Add a welcome and closing message – text that students will see before and after taking a quiz (it can be used to specify pass rate, or give additional explanations for results)
  • Specify “start date” on which all students on the course will be able to see the quiz (by default start date is set to current date, if you would like to hide the quiz – please remember to adjust starting date)
  • Specify “due date” by which student have to complete the quiz
  • Allow or reject late answer – enabling this option, allows students completing quiz after the due date, but leaves a mark for instructor
  • Choose whether questing should be shown in sequential or random order for students
  • Specify amount of attempts a quiz can be taken

Quizzes have 3 types of questions:

  • Multiple-choice: a student needs to choose one or several correct answers for a question (please note that partially correct answers still counted as fail)
  • True/False: a student needs to choose weather statement in the question is true or false
  • Short Answer: a student needs to type a word, a number or a phrase as an answer to the question

Quiz questions types in live learning platform

For each quiz question an instructor can:

  • Add text, math formulas, media links and pictures (we have the same editing interface you use on the course)
  • Add a short explanation which student will see after answering the question
  • Change order of the questions in the list (in case you want students to complete quiz in sequential order)

When student starts the quiz and answers a question:

  • Correct answer and explanation will be shown immediately if student has only one attempt
  • For multi-try quizzes student will only see weather answer is correct or not after answering, and will see all correct answers and explanations only after sending quiz results

Student view with spoken english

We also have a new “results” interface for instructors – results of all students are shown in one dashboard along with an option to reset progress individually (to give one more extra try for a student).

LMS made in Finland

New assignments highlights.  Improvement to the assignments UX follows the same principle of a unified interface. As an instructor:

  • You have the same controls for start/due dates and late answers like on quizzes page
  • You see all results for all students on a single summary block right under the assignment

There is a noticeable change when it comes to task submission and grading. As of now, students can modify draft answer unlimited amount of times (upload documents, change text, etc). Once an answer is submitted, no further changes are allowed. However, course instructor can choose to give feedback and ask for corrections, instead of grading the answer right away. This will give an option to a student to improve answer and resubmit.

Tasks in Live learning platform

Linking tasks and topics

Last but not least, we have added an option to link tasks and topics. If you would like students to complete a certain assignment or quiz right after reading course chapter, you can admit by clicking “link task” from the footer. A panel with selected task will be displayed right under the content block.

Improved video streaming. The quality of streaming videos have improved but also the graphical interface now is also improved, giving you space to include more students to your online teaching class.

Emoticons. Yes, you are reading right, we have added Emoticons so everybody now can share their feelings , if they choose to do so, with the rest of the class. Who said that you cannot have fun when you are teaching live online?

Performance and security. Low on internet bandwidth and losing connection? No problem, now the client will automatically reconnect to the session so you won’t loose a minute trying to do it manually. Plus a dozen of minor fixes that will improve stability and the overall performance of your experience. Case study: Illustrated Math Series

We rarely publish user reviews (they are public after all) but this most recent message really touched our entire team and we thought to share it with the community as a “case study”. We have started Eliademy 3 years ago as a social enterprise with a sole mission – make e-learning tools available for anyone for free. As the time passed, we have to admit we are far from being perfect, but we are still committed to doing our best to become the best platform for educators and students around the world. The following text is provided without modifications and can be also found at our Facebook review page.

Syed_HashmiIt is not that the moment I saw Eliademy, I fell in love with it, no, no, no, absolutely not. My deep respect and sincere love for Eliademy are carefully assessed based on an accurate evaluation through continuous research on the internet plus my constant interaction with Eliademy team over a long period of 4 years.

I am a professional Educator & Author with more than 43 years of experience in teaching the global curriculum in mathematics, physics and chemistry (including the K-16 US and Canada). I was looking for a resourceful but inexpensive or free simple e-learning platform for multiple reasons. I restlessly searched on the internet and found only two platforms which appeared to fulfill my needs exactly the way I was looking for (1) Udemy (2) Eliademy.

I decided to start with Udemy since it was being advertised a lot as “the largest platform”. I emailed them and got the response immediately with all the assistance I could have possibly needed. I was about to settle down with Udemy for good, but in the meantime, some very troubling facts started to emerge through reviews on Google, about policies on course pricing and sharing between the author and the platform. I then sent a very detailed e-mail to the then CEO to have a clear idea about the price sharing. After a reasonably long period of time without any response, I sent a reminder to both the CEO and the president of Udemy which was ignored. I concluded that Udemy was focused on the exploitation of intellectual talents in the name of democratization of education. It was a shock to me.

Next, I e-mailed Eliademy. They immediately responded and assigned a very talented and dynamic employee Jose to assist me through all the means available. As the time kept passing by my faith in Eliademy grew stronger and stronger. I feel now that Eliademy is the most truthful team with the pure and honest passion for “democratizing education with technology” – making e-learning tools available to everyone with crystal clear transparency without any tricks from their sleeves.

I would like to say thanks to entire Eliademy team who had kindly demonstrated their patience, generosity and care towards their clients. Long live the cause of education and the honestly true promoters of this cause.

Syed Hashmi, M.Sc, CEO at Illustrated Math Series

Custom Completion Certificates

In addition to default certificate of completion, instructors can now upload a fully custom certificate template for each course.

When you open Course/Certificate tab, you will see a new option on certificate type field – “Custom Certificate”. Choosing it allows you to upload with your own template. For the best results, please use the following parameters:

  • File type: PNG (better) or JPEG
  • Size: up to 10 Mb
  • Format: A4
  • Orientation: both portrait and landscape
  • Resolution: 150 dpi, 2000 pixels height or width

After uploading, you will be asked to indicate where student name and course completion date should be printed (allow some space on the template). Please note, your certificate template should include:

  • Course name
  • Organization name and logo
  • Instructor name and signature

If you teach multiple courses, you will need to create several copies of the template with different course names. Once the custom certificate is configured, each student to whom you issue a certificate will receive a custom certificate by email, will be able to add it to LinkedIn and order a printed copy (if you enabled this option).

Like always, we’ve got more exciting product news coming. Please keep your eye on the Eliademy Blog or follow @eliademy. Thanks for using Eliademy!
