The NGO People in Need uses the e-learning platform EliademyPeople in Need is a Czech NGO promoting humanism, freedom, equality and solidarity. Its members believe that “people anywhere in the world should have a right to make decisions about their lives and to share the rights expressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights“.

All Hands Volunteers, welcome to Eliademy

The US-based NGO All Hands Volunteers recently joined Eliademy’s community. Founded in 2005, All Hands Volunteers provides “immediate, effective and sustainable support to communities in need by harnessing the energy and commitment of dedicated volunteers” [1]. They intervene worldwide to address the needs of communities impacted by natural disasters.

The NGO All Hands Volunteers uses Eliademy to provide online training to its staff.

Today, we are proud to welcome on Eliademy the Czech Non-Governmental Organization PASOS. PASOS stands for Policy Association for an Open Society. It is a network of independent policy centers in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia who have a shared mission to promote and protect democracy, human rights and open society values. The key areas the organization is working on are democracy & human rights, good governance & open economy, sustainable development and international co-operation.

The importance of OER online courses in the democratization of education

“Open Educational Resources (OER) provide a strategic opportunity to improve the quality of education as well as facilitate policy dialogue, knowledge sharing and capacity building.” (UNESCO, [1])

 

Eliademy recently started crowdsourcing OER (Open Educational Resources) online courses in order to democratize education worldwide. OER are educational resources such as texts, images, videos, assignments, courses, etc. which are freely accessible to anyone and can be used to teach and learn. They can be part of the public domain or released under a license allowing free use, adaptation and distribution. According to the OER Research Hub, teachers notably share OER in the format of videos, images, lesson plans and quizzes [2]. Online courses are also increasingly released as OER, even if they are still only a few. This trend represents a huge progress in the democratization of education for a number of reasons.
