Wine Campus welcome to Eliademy!

Wine Campus is a tiny wine academy with a big heart for its students, delivering several online wine courses tutored by its founder Georges Meekers, a professional wine centipede who just loves to share his wine expertise. He has been lecturing Internet wine classes long before the invention of all the new distance learning platforms that have since sprouted.

Moodle simply used to be the one go-to solution back in the day. However, as Georges confides: “the combination of its security issues, the hassle of repeatedly having to install updates and the lack of a IT savvy service support team to help out when things go wrong”, made him try and test other ways to deliver his most popular Georges’ University Wine Course.

The course is for enthusiasts as well as people already working in the wine industry which have been beachcombing the web for wine information but on whom it has dawned that, although Googling the Web can be fun, it is not the same as being guided by an authority providing correct, unbiased and up-to-date material in real time.

After a long search for an easy to use and effortless to maintain Moodle replacement, Georges’ University Wine Course has recently rooted at Eliademy. “It’s safely cloud-based and maintained for me by a most helpful bunch of techies so that I can devote all my time to interacting with course participants and, well, exploring wine myself.”

This is important because Wine Campus in unique in that it delivers ‘apprenticeship courses’. Coming from old French ‘aprentis’ (from ‘apprendre’ or to learn), the focus is on the fact that students will apprentice directly with a wine professional.

This is achieved by limiting the wine course’s intake to less than a dozen participants at any given time. But it also requires a directness in the relationship between student and tutor. Flawless interface and compactness of Eliademy is hugely instrumental. “It’s intuitive to handle yet the platform comes complete with a webinar room, discussion forums, messaging and task feedback facilities, discussion boards – just a corkscrew is missing!”

According to Georges Meekers: “Eliademy is an ideal place for teaching online because it is so straightforward to use and it suits text-based and video-centred content as well as a combination of both. “You can almost instinctively build Eliademy around your tutoring style so that each student can join in a dynamic, participatory and enjoyable learning experience – and wine is all about sharing after all.”
